Lowlands was echt een knaller (tent afgeladen vol, dak eraf, we hadden het hardst gemeten applaus/gegil/gefluit en volgens velen waren wij 1 van de hoogtepunten van de dag) Zoiets hadden we op zo'n grote schaal, voor zo'n soort publiek nog nooit meegemaakt. Een hoogtepunt in onze carriere!

Bluegrassmuziek die zijn roots zowel in de Europese als de Afro-Amerikaanse tradities heeft is recentelijk weer volop in de belangstelling geraakt, voornamelijk door de film 'Oh, Brother Where Art Thou?' maar ook door de artiesten Steve Earle en Dolly Parton die het genre bij een groot publiek onder de aandacht brachten, waarbij zij werden begeleid door gerenommeerde bluegrass-muzikanten als Del McCoury en zijn zoons Ronnie en Rob.

In eigen land wonnen The Blue Grass Boogiemen maar liefst zes keer de Gram Parsons-Award als 'beste akoestische band' en onlangs werden zij als 'De echte helden van het 'Blue Highways'-festival' bestempeld in het Utrechts Nieuwsblad nadat zij ex-lid van de bekende Amerikaanse band The Byrds Chris Hillman begeleidden tijdens dit prestigieuze Americana-festival in Vredenburg.
Verder werden zij tijdens het 'European World of Bluegrass'-festival, wat jaarlijks georganiseerd wordt door de European Bluegrass Music Association, verkozen tot "Most popular European bluegrass band". En tenslotte, De Volkskrant schreef 'Betere country wordt in Nederland niet gemaakt'.
The Blue Grass Boogiemen wonnen in Ierland "The Waterford crystal bowl" op het Guinness Bluegrass festival voor de "most popular band". In Holland kregen ze de "Silver Fiddle” en 6 achtereenvolgende jaren de "Gram Parsons" award, beide voor de beste country/bluegrass band.
Zelfs de Washington Post schreef een uitermate positieve recensie naar aanleiding van een Blue Grass Boogiemen optreden in DC. In Ierland wonnen zij de 'Crystal Bowl' als meest populaire band tijdens het 'Guinness International Bluegrass Festival'.

100% akoestisch; we kunnen ons dan verplaatsen door de ruimte, een beetje interactief met het publiek nummers ten gehore brengen. Naast bluegrass kunnen we dan ook een greep doen uit ons hit-repertoire (hits uit de vijftiger en zestiger jaren, aangevuld met algemeen bekende evergreens) Bezetting: contrabas, gitaar, mandoline en banjo. Een indicatie qua speeltijden: 4 sets van 30 minuten in tijdsbestek van 4 uur. Deze manier van optreden blijkt altijd succesvol voor een gemeleerd publiek in de leeftijdsgroep van pakembeet 30-plus.
Versterkt concert van Blue Grass Boogiemen rondom die ene microfoon. Het repertoire blijft ook voornamelijk bij bluegrass. Er kunnen evt. wel een aantal 'bekendere' nummers tussendoor gedaan worden (Man of Constant Sorrow, Fox on the Run, Yellow River, Mr. Tamborine Man, Yambalaya) ten einde het ietwat 'luchtiger' te maken. Een indicatie qua speeltijden: 2 sets van 50 minuten of 3 sets van 40 minuten in tijdsbestek van 4 uur.

We are the Blue Grass Boogiemen, a.k.a. the Hillbilly Boogiemen from Holland. As the Hillbilly Boogiemen (named after the song 'Hillbilly Boogie' by the Delmore Brothers) we've been playing vintage country, rockabilly and bluegrass professionally since 1990. Our line up consists of the four of us playing all the instruments the aforementioned styles acquire; apart from the bluegrass instruments (mandolin, banjo, guitar, upright bass and fiddle) there's lap-steel, blues harp, electric guitar and a snare drum played when needed.
As the Blue Grass Boogiemen we play strictly acoustic instruments standing around just one omni-directional microphone. Our show has proved to be very successful not only in Europe (in Ireland we won the 'Waterford Crystal Bowl' for 'most popular band' at the Guinness Inter-national Bluegrass Festival, in Holland we won the 'Silver Fiddle Award' and recently for the sixth time the 'Gram Parsons Award' both for best acoustic country/bluegrass band and beat Alison Krauss to the number one spot in the 'Strictly Country' charts) but also in America.
Fiddler Byron Berline wrote: 'Your band was singled out as one of our 'don't miss', 'please have them back' and 'we love them' groups...' after we appeared at his international bluegrass festival in Guthrie, OK, for the first time. Since then we've played his festival almost every year. The Washington Post wrote: '...the Boogiemen mimicked American music icons with absolute accuracy and joy...' and 'Mandolinist Arnold Lasseur did Bill Monroe proud...' after we played in Arlington, VA. About our recorded work the Bluegrass Unlimited magazine wrote: 'This is a highly entertaining band that comfortably handles a range of music with flair, taste and energy. Readers would be well advised to catch this band when they come through town. It should be a great show' and also 'Gosh, this is what the music world's been missing, isn't it?...When I first played this album, which is an immensely entertaining collection, I thought I was listening to some unusually talented country-bluegrass band from Ohio or Michigan or some such place.’ But no, we're from Holland allright. Holland, Europe that is! However we're willing to travel to where ever you'd want us to play.
